Kosmix Aims to Bring Down Google

A new online startup company called Kosmix is hoping to take on Google and its’ #1 product, their infamous online search, by introducing their own search product which they hope will generate better search results on specific subjects “by gleaning more about the overall content of Web pages searched.”  (Was that a run-on?  I apologize.)

How does it work?  After asking users to categorize their search (i.e., Technology), Kosmix will find results for the query but will also take a look at the content of other pages that are linking to the aforementioned results in order to display the best possible candidates that would contain the information you were looking for.  (That was a mouthful.)

You can find the new service at Kosmix.com with a beta search test under the category of “Health.”

It’ll take more than advanced searching features to topple the Google giant and Kosmix just doesn’t roll off your tongue without a good coating of saliva first.

Hey, hey! No one ever said that we’re trying to topple Google. We’re just trying to categorize the Web to help users explore information. =)

    I stand corrected. Shall I post a retraction? ; )

We don’t mind being compared to the big boys. It’s up to us to deliver now! Keep watching. . .

Yup. Any search service that adds a step to the process (asking a user to categorize before searching) isn’t going to hurt Google. But there must still be money to be made in the niches out there.

Didn’t Teoma try that a while ago?
